Geek Love

This was a bit of a random sketch, but it is more or less what I draw when I doodle. Typically if I don't have a direction in mind, or if I'm drawing while doing something else this is the kind of thing that usually comes out.

This is also drawn with one of my favorite drawing tools...a ballpoint pen. Not some fancy pen that costs $10 or more, but the cheap ones. You know the ones you accidentally steal from the bank when you fill out a deposit slip.

The premise here is that you have the pairing of two individuals that I think we all have known at least once in our lives. One person is infatuated, and the other is clueless.

Figure Study

I have recently made an effort to get back to figure drawing from live models again. This is one of those luxuries we had in school, but took for granite at the time. Once I was out and working, I stopped putting as much emphasis on my drawing.

Now that I've been doing it again for a couple weeks I am starting to feel like I'm getting back to where I was all those years ago. I like to experiment with mediums that I don't normally use, just to try something different. In the image above I used an ink wash on mixed media paper. The original is black and white, but I thought it would look nice with a colorful gradient applied to it.

Character Study

I've been working on developing 3 characters for an upcoming project I'd like to work on, and as I was trying to decide on what style I want to move forward with I drew this. I really wanted to try to find a way to make her fit the story, but I'm 99% sure I'm not using this style.

I have a current project I'm developing, but I'm not sure it'll work there either. It seems a shame to not use her somewhere. I'll have to find a place for her.

Mermaid Feeding her Pet

So as I mentioned in a previous post, I have been fascinated with beasts of lore. One that has been chief among them is the mermaid. In my mind, they are akin to the Succubus and the Siren where they seduce their prey and turn on them. Although one thing I think mermaids should have are gills that run along the rib cage, not on the neck. Otherwise they would breath in hair all the time.

In this particular drawing I wanted her to look on callously as she hands her victim to her pet. As if this was like feeding kibble to the dog. I also wanted to play with the underwater hues. I think this was fairly successful.

I've never been good at capturing a convincing dragon I thought I'd try using a dinosaur as a starting point. I think I can chalk this one up as one of my more successful attempts, although it is still not quite where I would like to be with it.

I'll have to keep plugging away at it, maybe I should lean more toward the eastern style of dragon. They are a bit more serpent like, but I like the shape of the head as compared to what I have here.
